National Film Day
Bailey Theatre to be part of the World’s Largest One-Day Film Festival
The Bailey Theatre will join over 1400 sites across the country and 60 sites worldwide in celebrating Canadian film. Through major funding from the federal government, this year’s National Film Day 150 will be the largest one-day film festival in the world!
REEL Canada, the non-profit organization that co-ordinates the event, believes that our films are key to the “stories we tell about ourselves. [Films] open the door to so many conversations about place, nation, identity and what it means to be Canadian.”
The National Film Day coordinator for the Baliey, Leslie Lindballe, has used this as a guide to include Camrose organizations in this year’s event. “With the festival happening over the Easter break, I wasn’t able to include schools the same way I did last year,” says Lindballe, “so I approached the community organizations and they really responded.”
The Camrose Pride Community, Aboriginal Students’ Office at Augustana, and Camrose Hospice Society will all participate in the event. Each film will have a short introduction meant to orient the audience to the topic. Following the film, there will be a short period of discussion.
“The best part of the event is that it’s completely free,” Lindballe states. “This means that everyone is able to celebrate our expanding film industry while connecting with essential work being done by our community organizations.
