GENERAL MANAGER
Bailey Theatre – Camrose, Alberta
Overall Description:
The Board of Directors of the charitable Bailey Theatre Society is seeking an energetic, self-starting, entrepreneurial candidate to bring the vision of the Bailey Theatre to life. The General Manager will oversee the operation, preservation and growth of a historic theatre that will operate as both a commercial roadhouse and community venue.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will be responsible for:
- Overseeing all theatre operations, including scheduling, staffing, programming, contracting and financial administration.
- Overseeing the successful operation of the box office including the marketing and acquisition of third-party partners in the theatre’s regional ticket service
- Overseeing technical, front-of-house, and volunteer staff.
- Developing and overseeing a strong community, public relations and marketing program.
- Enhanced revenue development including earned income, grants and corporate support.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in arts administration or equivalencies.
- Minimum of five years supervisory/management experience in the arts.
- A working knowledge of theatre and entertainment contract negotiations, and experience with the ATAA (Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta) and CAPOCOA (Canadian Arts Presenting Association). A relationship with LHAT (League of Historic American Theatres) will be required.
- The ability to prepare budgets and control costs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Fundraising and grant procurement skills
- An understanding and passion for the performing arts

The historic Bailey Theatre in Camrose, Alberta, Canada opened its doors in 1911 as a vaudeville theatre and dancehall. It is the oldest theatre of its type in Alberta and is a municipal historic site. A $5.5 million restoration and upgrading project has been on-going for more than two years and a soft opening is planned for the fall of 2010. This flat floor facility offers 110 permanent seats in the balcony, flexible seating on the main floor, creating a theatre style capacity for up to 400 patrons. A catering kitchen and separate bistro area will provide the capability to host dinner theatre, receptions and a wide range of uses. Special attention has been provided by the Board of Directors, architect and consultants to provide a top quality, multi-use facility with strong ties to the community and surrounding area. Camrose is a city of 17,000 in north-central Alberta with a trading area over 110,000.
